SUMMARY:Mothers w/ Axxa/Abraxas @ The Mothlight
DESCRIPTION:21+\, $10 \nMothers began in 2013 as the solo project of Athens\, Georgia-based visual artist Kristine Leschper while she studied printmaking at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Now a quartet\, their debut album ‘When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired\,’ released via Grand Jury Music and Wichita Recordings\, has earned the young band high praise from the press\, including from NPR Music (‘First Listen’)\, The New York Times\, Pitchfork\, The Guardian\, NME (‘Radar’)\, and Q Magazine\, among many others\, while the band themselves have been included on numerous ‘Musicians to know’ lists for 2016 including from Stereogum\, Vulture\, Spotify\, Paper Magazine and others. Comprised of eight original songs – the majority of which were written while Leschper was finishing art school in early 2014 – Mothers’ debut LP is an introduction to the foundations of the young band\, a snapshot of a particular period of their genesis that maps both where they began and where they are heading. \nTumbling out of the mind of Asheville\, NC resident Ben Asbury\, Axxa/Abraxas oozes with psychedelic bursts of fuzz\, organ and synth as a backdrop to solid\, jangley pop tunes. After a number of early tape releases the first Axxa record was released in 2014 by Captured Tracks. 2017 will see the release of the 2nd Axxa LP\, ‘Family Alta.

SUMMARY:Kikagaku Moyo w/ Al Lover\, Acid Reign @ The Mothlight . FREE MEMORIAL DAY MONDAY!
DESCRIPTION:21+ FREE \nKikagaku Moyo/幾何学模様 (Japanese for Geometric Patterns) is the musical union between five free spirits. Go Kurosawa (drums\, Vocals) and Tomo Katsurada (Guitar\, Vocals) formed the band in 2012 as a free artist’s collective. They met Kotsuguy (Bass) while he was recording noise from vending machines and Akira (Guitar) through their university. Ryu Kurosawa had been studying Sitar in India\, upon returning home he found the perfect outlet for his practice. \nThey recorded their first EP in a day and posted it to Bandcamp. On the other side of the world\, a small label from Greece was listening and offered to press a limited run of LPs. Interest picked up through the blogging community and the band found tight group of dedicated fans around the globe. Since 2013 the band has released two full lengths\, an EP\, and several singles. They have toured Australia\, the United States\, Europe and Japan extensively. Kikagaku Moyo love to connect with people through performing\, whether they are playing in a barn deep in a Swedish forest\, on a desolate Mediterranean beach\, or beside a sleepy river at 2014’s Levitation Fest they bring out the magic in everyone present. \nTheir latest release “House in the Tall Grass” (Guruguru Brain) was recorded in the winter of 2015/16 in Tokyo. Their delicate use of melody and soft vocal harmonies contrast seamlessly with fuzzed out sitar riffs and feedback. To Kikagaku Moyo a song is like a breath of wind through the leaves or a fish jumping from the water. Their music is a conversation—sometimes delicate and tender other times explosive\, but always human and always changing. \nw/ Al Lover\nhttps://allover.bandcamp.com/ \nAcid Reign\n(Members of Nest Egg)

SUMMARY:BASK (Ramble Beyond Record Release) w/ Nest Egg\, HAAL @ The Mothlight
DESCRIPTION:21+. $10 \nBASK : Progressive; heavy; psychedelic; americana\, have all been used to describe Bask. The truth\, we are four musicians based in Asheville North Carolina who love making music. We want rhythm heard for miles\, melodies remembered for weeks and an honesty and sincerity felt to your bones. Most of all we want you to listen without concern for what you are hearing. To listen only for the sake of hearing.\nEsse Quam Videri\,\n-Bask \nNest Egg has already made a name for themselves with their amazing fog-heavy\, zoned and honed live show. Warping minds and winning fans with their heady\, atmospheric take on progressive\, ethereal vibed-out rock music. Psychedelic when the mood turns mellow\, but driving when they hit the gas and float the cosmic flux. Really\, when you get right down to it\, Nest Egg are bringing on a sound that few have had the ability to channel and refine with this level of mastery. \n

SUMMARY:Doug Tuttle (formerly MMOSS) w/ Nightlands\, Livingdog @ The Mothlight
DESCRIPTION:21+. $7 \n*New Hampshire-native Doug Tuttle (ex-MMOSS) presents the follow-up to his 2013 solo debut self-titled album with It Calls On Me.\nEschewing the jittery\, love-lorn anxiety of his first solo outing\, It Calls On Me presents a decidedly more dreamy journey through softer\, sun-burnt landscapes\, while still showcasing Tuttle’s trademark masterful guitar-work and his very own brand of impeccably-crafted\, fractured psychedelic pop. \n*I Can Feel the Night Around Me\, the third album from Philadelphia’s Nightlands\, showcases Dave Hartley’s finely tuned ability to layer his voice and conjure some of the most beautiful and elaborate virtual choirs in modern music. If his first two records were vocal layering experiments\, his third stands as Hartley’s thesis statement: “I was determined to use vocal stacking to enable my songwriting\, not shroud or obscure it.”\nHe recorded most of the album alone in a cold warehouse basement\, which he affectionately calls The Space — it’s where The War on Drugs (of whom Hartley has been a core member for the past decade) formerly rehearsed and stored their equipment. Indeed the music seems more geographically inspired by the microclimates of the Lost Coast and the moonrises of Big Sur than the post-industrial cityscape of North Philadelphia. Perhaps his periodic westward sojourns and healthy obsessions with mid-career Beach Boys albums and Denis Johnson’s Already Dead: A California Gothic were influencing him more than he was aware. \n*Livingdog is the moniker under which Corey Robert Parlamento writes and performs his own unique brand of indie-folk music. Originally from South Florida\, Parlamento spent some years away from song writing to travel and work. These experiences range from a life as a shepherd’s right hand in the Piemonte mountains of northwestern Italy tending to herds of goats and sheep\, all the way to the life of an operating room orderly carrying severed limbs to laboratories in a hospital somewhere in the sun soaked mires of eastern South Florida. His music weaves in out of those two worlds. At one minute you could be a gentle breeze on pasture wheat in a cool Italian summer\, and the next you could be a pool of blood on cold linoleum. But\, whichever world of his you end up in\, you still get a sense of the beauty that lives within it. Currently living in Asheville NC\, Parlamento spends most of his time writing and recording. He has self-released two albums since his emergence in the Western North Carolina music scene.
