Local Fauna

March 23, 2021 by

Exploring alternative approaches to life and well being in the mountains of Western North Carolina

Local Fauna is dedicated to the memory of Sarah McKinney

Local Fauna is an interview style podcast in which Pryscilla Atropine meets with expert guests to explore healthy lifestyle topics with an emphasis on local, natural and holistic. Conversations will explore Asheville and Appalachian based lifestyle, answers to health and environmental questions, including herbal medicine, cooking and nutrition, wild food, organic gardening, farming and homesteading, natural birth and child rearing, kitchen witching, seasonal magic, folklore, home remedies, natural medicine and healing, holistic healing, energy autonomy, and the politics and issues surrounding rural versus global living contexts.

The hope of Local Fauna is that our community creates stronger internal connections and empowerment through the exploration of globally relevant ideas and inspiration. In hearing from local leaders and experts, we have the opportunity to engage in projects and movements that are life-changing as well as world-changing. Local Fauna explores simple, yet profound ideas, intended to enhance the way we think, eat, relate, and live, so that we may experience good health and good relationships with all Life.

Bees! With Sarah McKinney

Join me as I explore the amazing world of bees and beekeeping with Sarah McKinney, known locally as The Bee Whisperer. Tragically, Sarah was taken from us in 2020, and this first Local Fauna podcast episode celebrates her and all she gave to our community.

She was an educator and storyteller, taught in area schools and spread the love of bees at local events. Check out the educational opportunities available at the local bee supply store downtown Weaverville, Honey & The Hive, an important part of her legacy. She occupied a unique place in the beekeeping world, in Asheville, and in our hearts.
