Dawn Carol ( AKA DJ Mouse, Brave Mouse) was born a poor, yankee child. About 10 years later, Dawn, with her late, great Mama, Georgia Carol, went down to Georgia, arriving just ahead of the devil, where Dawn grew up wondering, worried, wacky and woke, into a poor, Southern Woman, and life-long human rights activist and advocate. From there, Dawn went up to North Carolina, attended UNC-Asheville, met the future father of her one and only, prophotized child, graduated with a degree in psychology, and embarked on a life-long career in the social services / helping professions, supporting people in need. Dawn eventually settled and raised her family in Asheville, NC, where she writes, records and performs music, poems and stories, works supporting differently abled individuals and volunteering in local, national and international human rights/social justice actions, hosts a really cool radio show, called “Come On IN My Kitchen”, on the very Best station in the entire Spooniverse, Asheville FM, and
is the proud parent of an amazing 2021 Asheville High School graduate.
Though musically and lyrically inclined, and exposed to broad genres of music from a young age, Dawn did not start learning to play guitar and write songs until mid-adulthood. She has since written many songs, and performed at a number of festivals, human rights rallies and conferences, clubs, coffeehouses, churches and theaters, and acted in plays written by the illustrious Corr De Joche, with the amazing Down with Pants theater collective. She has recorded and released five CDs of original songs, the latest CD, “Three Quarter Moon”,
produced and released digitally in 2020, as a character named Brave Mouse, along with a rhyming children’s story, “River Critters”, the first in a series of stories about gentrification, teaching kids empathy, compassion, solidarity, resiliency, dedication and teamwork, along with animal facts.
Here lately, as Dawn continues, due to that Mother called necessity, to build internet skills, copes with impending empty nest syndrome, and approaches her 3rd anniversary of hosting “Come On In My Kitchen” on Asheville FM, she is working on the second storybook in the River Critters series, writing new grown up songs too, scheduling Fall performances and events, while continually collaborating to organize actions to rescue earth’s resources, our education, our voting rights, our safety, our bodies, our stolen labor, our right to live, before humanity extinct itself. She is currently working to birth and idea she calls “Million MeeMaw March For Georgia”
