For the last couple of weeks, Plants for Everyone, a local organization that specializes in native, edible, and landscaping plants, has opened pre-orders of plant starters. The pre-sale ends this Sunday the 16th. The AFM News Hour sat down with Emma and Lucas of the organization to discuss.
Plants for Everyone is a once-annual bare-root plant sale. The species sold are perennial species. For three days, Emma and Lucas will be in a greenhouse in Smith Mill Works filling orders. The third day will be open to the public for the sale. Lucas said a major goal is “getting the most plants into the most hands.”
Emma and Lucas said that this year more than ever, Plants for Everyone needs our help to rebuild the vegetation in an ecosystem that was destroyed by Hurricane Helene. Native plants are so important because they help animals, insects, and even humans survive. Plants for Everyone will give away “live stakes,” basically twigs that you just stick in the ground and watch grow into the magnificent trees our environment has lost. They work to keep costs low, and they include a work-trade option for volunteering if you would like to reduce your costs even further.
