Join us for an afternoon of inspiring presentations and conversations at Asheville FM Presents: WOMEN’s VOICES for Climate & the Environment, where we’ll explore climate, community, and change through the lenses of resilience, advocacy, and art. This dynamic event will feature local leaders sharing their personal journeys and insights into the climate crisis, community action, and sustainable change.

AshevilleFM is donating 80% of ticket sales from VOICES III to two grassroots and local non-profit organizations who are doing the critical relief work in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

The River Arts District Artists (RADA) is committed to restoring the creativity and inspiration that makes the RAD a beacon for artists and our community. Their immediate goal is to provide artists with the essential resources they need to rebuild their creative lives in the RAD.

Swannanoa Communities Together (SCT) are building a Swannanoa Valley where neighborhoods and communities are working together to create a place where everyone is included, valued, and cared for. Together, they build community, advocate, and organize for Swannanoa’s future to be built “by all of us for all of us”.

VOICES III Presenters:

Julie Mayfield, North Carolina Senator and Senior Policy Advisor at MountainTrue, will discuss her work in environmental law and public policy, from protecting public lands to advancing clean energy solutions in the Appalachian region. She will share her experience leading recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Helene, highlighting the importance of community resilience.

Ann Rose, an off-grid farmer and environmental advocate, will take us on a journey from her 81-day, 2,000-mile solo kayak trip along America’s waterways, where she documented the impacts of pollution and climate change. Ann will discuss the intersection of water justice and rural resilience and the personal and environmental challenges she faced along the way.

Selin Nurgün, a queer Turkish-American educator and somatic coach, will lead a conversation on embodied transformation and environmental behavior change. With her background in climate resilience and ecological well-being, Selin will explore how we can navigate the psychological dimensions of the climate crisis while fostering collective healing and liberation.

Sara Russell, Operations Manager at Food Connection, will highlight the intersection of food sustainability and community resilience. She will share how Food Connection addresses food insecurity and reduces waste in Asheville, offering a glimpse into the vital work being done to support those in need.

Hannah Rothstein is a climate artist whose work has been shaped by the emotional and environmental aftermath of Hurricane Helene. She also contributed her creative vision to the design of the Women’s Voices III event poster.

With opportunities to connect, reflect, and explore interactive art pieces, this event is rooted in a vision for a just and flourishing future. Together, we’ll gather to honor these incredible women, their work, and the communities they serve.
