This Saturday/Sunday overnight, JD will present a very special Bowie tribute, on the exact fifth anniversary of his death. Presented will be music spanning his illustrious career, including 20 studio tracks and live numbers. There will also be 8 covers by various Prog bands and artists, and 2 selections from the soundtrack of his last musical ‘Lazarus’, an album scheduled and recorded on what turned out to be the day after Bowie’s death. The musicians and cast were notified upon arriving at the studio; their emotional performances captured on the recording. Bowie’s final studio album ‘Blackstar’ dropped on January 8th, his birthday, only two days before his death. The fact he kept secret a terminal illness while recording this album brings an immediacy, honesty and raw emotion that rivals anything a musical artist has ever created. Show will kick off at 2 AM and go till 5 AM, ending with a couple storied instrumentals from the new box sets by Porcupine Tree and King Crimson. I hope you can listen live, but if you miss any part of it, the archive will be up on Sunday morning on Asheville FM . After and forever at MIXCLOUD
