Local Fauna Lammas 2019 with Shaman Cat Shepard

August 1, 2019 by Kaos Kitty

Join Pryscilla Friday, August 2nd (Happy Lammas!) and welcome an extraordinary local practitioner of shamanic arts, and artist, Cat Shepard. Cat’s special focus is the practice known as Ecstatic Body Postures or Trance Posture. Cat works with participants to generate healing, as well as deeper understanding of universal and personal processes. We will discuss the history and practice of this phenomenon, pioneered by American anthropologist Felicitas Goodman, and carried on today by practitioners like Cat, and at the Cuyamungue Institute in Santa Fe, NM, among others.

Cat is an intuitive artist with over 40 years of experience.  She facilitates ecstatic trance-forms, rituals, workshops, sacred circles, private intuitive ancestral readings & experiential Reiki sessions.  Cat is a Reiki Master & a priestess of the Divine Feminine, the Dark Goddesses & Women’s Mysteries, a natural intuitive & an experienced instructor of earth-honoring & energetic healing practices.  Her work respectfully blends ancient spiritual practices with creative expression, awakening transformational states of consciousness from within. She has learned that Art & Ritual, when used with sacred intention & integrity, are powerful gifts & tools for bringing art & healing to life, offering profound opportunities for recognizing greater potentials & giving deeper meaning to our experiences.

Health Benefits of Ecstatic Trance-Forms:

  • Releases beta-endorphins (bodies own opiates) responsible for states of rapture & intense euphoria
  • Blood pressure drops
  • Pulse heightens
  • Heightened sensual awareness
  • Expands consciousness naturally (without drugs) allowing one to leave our secular experience and enter into a sacred one
  • Aligns the left & right hemispheres of the brain resulting in whole brain functioning
  • Realigns the body for healing to take place

  • “Improved well-being by decreasing negative emotions and increasing positive ones”
  • “Improved medical outcomes, trends toward reduced depression”
  • “Reductions in stress and anxiety; increases in positive emotions”
  • “Reductions in distress and negative emotions”
  • “Improvements in flow and spontaneity, expression of grief, positive identity, and social networks”

Resisting Tyranny in Hong Kong

Photo from RadicalGraffDownload This Episode

For the hour, we spoke with Ahkok who identifies as a humanitarian, antifascist and musician who grew up in Hong Kong and has participated in protests over the years including the Umbrella Movement and current protests today. We talk about the mindset of the Hong Kong protests, the situation in China, decolonization, racism and more.

Y’all may have heard that over the last 8 weeks or so, Hong Kong has been rocked by protests to undermine efforts by the government to create an extradition treaty with China. The protests have included barricades, interesting uses of AirDrop, Telegram and whatsapp and other digital platforms to avoid censorship to spread information, street fights against police and attacks from criminal gangs they and the Chinese government hired (the so-called “White Shirts”) and a raucous romp through the empty legislative chambers of governance leaving wreck and ruin behind. The street actions come on the 30th anniversary of the Tienanmen Square Protests of 1989 when student sit-ins demanding democratic political and economic reforms were killed in Beijing and around by the so-called Peoples Liberation Army. Currently, western reporting and word from dissidents inside of China has come about the Re-Education camps such as in Xinjiang where the Chinese government has been interring Uighur Muslims and other ethnic and religious minorities in order to stamp out their religion and socialize them to a more homogeneous Chinese lifestyles, definitely a reason for Hong Kongers to take the streets to keep dissenters there from easy deportation to China.

A couple of interesting ways to keep up on perspectives from the region include ChuangCN, crimethInc, Hong Kong Free Press.

If you’re listening to the radio version on AFM, consider checking out the longer podcast listed above.

Anderson Fifteenth Judicial Circuit.

Support Workers Coop Efforts

Finally, comrades in Carbondale, IL, have put together a gofundme to help fund a workers cooperative. You can find the site by searching “Carbondale Spring Fat Patties Cooperative”, an effort to re-open a closed burger joint to feed the working class, not some fat cat CEO. Local Fauna 7.25.19 with Kathryn Long of the Growing Wild Forest School

July 25, 2019 by Kaos Kitty

Join us as we explore the many intriguing concepts of ReWilding education!

Kathryn Long is a lifelong learner with inexhaustible interest in music, biomechanics, magick, child development, and the natural world. She is the director and lead teacher of Growing Wild Forest School, a non-profit, all-outdoor nature connection school for children ages 3-6 located in West Asheville. Growing Wild is the first project of The Forest School Foundation, a 501(c)3 that Kathryn co-founded in 2016 to bring nature connection education to the WNC area. One of her core beliefs is that the best possible future for humanity can be created by people who were given plenty of opportunity to fall in love with the natural world in early childhood.

Her belief is backed up by years of research and study in the field of Outdoor Learning, and by Forest Schools in particular, an educational approach begun in Denmark in the 1950’s. Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees. This approach works to ameliorate the issues of Nature Deficit Disorder, and to explore the possibilities of Attention Restoration Theory, among other ground-breaking educational approaches.

Learn more at www.GrowingWildForestSchool.org, also on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/GrowingWildForestSchool/ and Instagram as Growing Wild Forest School, and our parent 501(c)3 is at www.TheForestSchoolFoundation.org and on Facebook as The Forest School Foundation.
