Final episode for Life Out of Tunes!

July 9, 2026 by Joey Books

As Life Out of Tunes goes on hiatus after this week’s episode, one of the things I came to appreciate over the past nine years hosting the show on Asheville FM is a recognizable fingerprint: a forgotten psych single from 1968 sitting comfortably next to a new independent release, a local Asheville artist sharing the stage with Pink Floyd or King Crimson, a little jazz, a little folk, some ambient music, a few experimental sounds, and always some thread – obvious or subtle – that tied the show together. I also enjoyed the detective work. There were weeks where I’d track down an obscure musician, untangle a bit of recording history, or discover that a song had a fascinating backstory. Those little factoids became part of the show’s personality, too. And who knows? “Hiatus” is one of those wonderfully open-ended words. If I cover for some other shows here, I’ll put the same effort into making it more than just “subbing” for someone else. Until then, may your record shelves never run out of surprises, may your turntable always spin true, and may there always be another strange, beautiful song waiting just beyond the next groove. Listen to “Life Out of Tunes – The Final Installment” this Friday, July 10th, 7-9 pm EDT on 103.3 Asheville FM

Prairieland Defendants Federal Sentencing

July 5, 2026 by bogoodness

Prairieland Federal Sentencing Updates

This week, two members of the DFW Support Committee return to give a rundown of the sentencing in that case with people receiving decades in relation to a noise demonstration in support of detainees at the Prairieland ICE Detention facility on July 4th of 2025. This case, framed in terms of Trump’s State Dept declaration of Antifa as a terrorist organization and his NSPM-7 memo titled “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence” declaring the intention to prosecute those motivated to violence by views of “anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and anti-Christianity; support for the overthrow of the United States Government; extremism on migration, race, and gender; and hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, religion, and morality.”

If you’re listening to the radio edition, consider checking out the podcast at our website where you’ll also hear a guest speak about a recent court case involving two individuals in the Great Lakes region who took action against flock surveillance cameras.
