Jethro Tull kicked off 1975 U.S. tour here in Asheville!

January 28, 2026 by JD & Ted

This Thursday (01/29, 1-3pm EDT) on Closer to the Edge, Professor Ted will feature a few selections from Jethro Tull’s 1974 album “Warchild”. At that time, Tull were one of the biggest bands in the world and they chose our town of Asheville, NC as the first date to kick off their U.S. tour on January 17, 1975. Documented in rough shaky-cam 8mm film here. In addition to a variety of other music both new and old, this week’s playlist will also include a classic Renaissance track in memoriam to their drummer Terry Sullivan (RIP, 1938-2026), as well as selections from four of 2025’s newly re-mastered classic albums.

AshevilleFM Live Music Sessions – Many A Ship

MUSICAL GUEST:  Many A Ship

Many a Ship is an indie-folk-rock band deeply rooted in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Formed in 2017, this collection of musical friends was drawn together by Vickie Burick (Warm the Bell, Nevada), united to craft a new sound, drenched in inspiration from nature, humanity, frailty, nostalgia and love. Burick serves as the anchor to this ever changing crew of shipmates that harbor in each performance, and is joined by Josh Gibbs and Dave Desmelik (40/20/10s) for this live spotlight performance on Asheville FM 103.3. Their music is a sea of stories about life, love, heartache, truth and hope.

Science, Radical Realism, and Anarchy (with William Gillis)

January 25, 2026 by bogoodness

This week, we’re sharing an interview with Will Gillis, author of the recently published book Did The Science Wars Take Place: The Political and Ethical Stakes of Radical Realism, published via C4SS where Gillis holds the position as The Voltairine de Cleyre Chair in Centrifugal Studies and technical coordinator.

For the hour we talk about the so-called Science Wars of the 1990’s, debates involving scientific approaches and shared understandings of a a measurable physical reality, post-modernism, the roles leftists and anarchists played in the debates and how cults and authoritarians employ anti-realist explanations of the world to limit their subjects’ moves toward liberation.

To check out another 30 minutes of interview, consider the blog at our website or the subscribe-able podcast or other streaming apps linked at TFSR.Media

You can read more of William’s writings at https://humaniterations.net and https://c4ss.org
