The next Music Movie Monday is historic!

April 7, 2023 by JD & Ted

In June 1970, the first American rock band to perform behind the Iron Curtain, was a tour sponsored by the U.S. State Department. Like much of the youth in America, Blood, Sweat and Tears had been outspoken and critical of the Nixon administration. Upon their return, they became victims of the culture wars in a polarized America. The band found themselves in the crossfire from both the Right and the Left, suffering greatly as a result; losing support from fans, the media and recording industry. Through footage shot during the tour and interviews with band members and historians, as well as unsealing of government records, this documentary is historic! Sponsored by Asheville FM w/discussion by Asheville author and music journalist, Bill Kopp and special guest Jim Fielder, a founding member of Blood, Sweat and Tears. See you April 10th at the Grail Moviehouse, watch the trailer here: TICKETS

Music Movie Mondays

March 20, 2023 by JD & Ted

Asheville FM sponsors ROCK ‘N’ ROLL HIGH SCHOOL at The Grail Moviehouse on Monday, March 27th at 7 PM, AND discussion after with local author and music journalist Bill Kopp! The film is set in 1980 at a High School where the students love of rock ‘n’ roll more than books. The leader of the students is a big Ramones fan and she waits in line for three days to get tickets to see the band, hoping to meet Joey Ramone so she can give him a song she wrote, “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School”. When the Principal takes her ticket away, Riff and her best friend win tickets in a radio contest. After delivering her song to Joey Ramone, the Principal and parents attempt to burn a pile of rock records. In response, the students, joined by the Ramones, overthrow the teachers and take over the school. When the police are summoned, the students burn down the school as a final act of youthful rebellion. Watch the trailer here: Tickets
