Asheville FM Live Music Sessions – The Greybirds

AshevilleFM Live Music Sessions..  Third Wednesday every month at 10pm

AshevilleFM 103.3, Bhramari Brewing Company and The Getaway River Bar have teamed up to provide you this live performance….

The Greybirds – are a band from Asheville, NC. The sound is comprised of two lead harmony vocals, Wurlitzer keyboard, upright bass, two guitars, drums. There are fingerprints of Rock & Roll, the common language of Folk, instrumentation of Early American Roots music, with a focus on vibe, dynamics, and lyricism.

The Greybirds began as a songwriting partnership between two seasoned musicians: Ryan Price (vocals, guitar) and Amanda Neill (vocals, keys). Both spent years in bands, Neill with projects in Nashville & New York, and Price in Seattle. But neither was able to find the sound they were searching for until they found one another. That elusive sonic identity was completed with the addition of ace players, Patton Cardwell (guitar), Tim Comstock (bass), and Travis McCann (drums).

Over the past year, The Greybirds have made a splash with performances at venues such as The Grey Eagle, Isis Music Hall, Atlanta’s SoFar Sounds, Open Folk Songwriter Showcase, and Hendersonville’s Rhythm & Brews Festival.

“In a time when the world seems so troubled, this music & dynamic sound help level out what’s going on… There’s times when singers get together and the blend of voices is hauntingly transforming. Think Mandolin Orange, think Emmylou meets Gram, Johnny meets June, George meets Tammy, and so on.” — David Boughner of Roadmaster Stage Presents, Black Mountain, NC.

Welcome to Open Air!

January 25, 2023 by Open Air Staff

Today we’re launching a new on-air program to help us reach out to more of our community groups and provide a platform for their work on the airwaves. We’re excited to announce Open Air will be airing every Wednesday at noon and will feature programming produced in partnership with local organizations working to improve the lives of people living in the Asheville area!

In the first episode, we’ll hear from the Racial Justice Coalition. It’s been really fun to conceptualize the series they had in mind, which they’ll use to launch a new podcast. RJC will produce a show once per month with us, and we can’t wait to learn about their work and hear from local artists, businesses, and organizers from Asheville’s Black community.

Open Air is intended not only to inform the community about work being done by local groups, but to help those groups develop broadcasting and audio production skills they can use going forward, and audio files they can use on their websites or to launch a podcast of their own! Open Air is produced by volunteers from the community as well and is a great way to learn audio production and radio skills.

If you or an organization you work with to improve the lives of Asheville neighbors would like to get involved, send an email to [email protected]

Inner Spectre – AshevilleFM Live Music Session show is up on the Live Recordings Tab – check it out!!

Asheville FM Live Music Sessions – Inner Spectre

AshevilleFM Live Music Sessions..  Third Wednesday every month at 10pm

AshevilleFM 103.3, Bhramari Brewing Company and The Getaway River Bar have teamed up to provide you this live performance….

Inner Spectre – inner spectre is the musical project of Bryce Watson, a DMV transplant living in Asheville, NC. Coming up on a lot of classic rock music, Watson grew an affinity for funk, soul and jazz music after playing in jazz band in high school, and shortly thereafter began writing songs that combined jazz harmony with fun and funky pop drums for their first project, bruce take nap. With the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down all the gigs in the Washington, DC scene, they were able to focus more on their production process, and spent more time practicing keyboards than anything else. This new harmonic layout allowed them to progress their sound into the R&B and soul music that they had grown to love since 17. Always an introspective person, Watson’s lyrics added a layer of melancholy and longing over top of smooth harmony and driving, syncopated drum patterns, and inner spectre was born. Their first project, “grapefruit” came out in August 2022, with the title track “grapefruit” being especially well-received by fans. The project touches on love, longing, and the dreariness of working 9 to 5. Shortly before the release of the record, Watson formed a live band with fellow DMV transplants Cameron Stack and Kevin Scott, who also perform Stack’s original tunes live. The trio leaves plenty of space for Watson’s wurlitzer piano and smooth vocals, and the split set is perfectly complementary, creating a dynamic live performance.
