May 28, 2020 by P Funk

Thanks to the relentless efforts of our fine Programming Committee, the Mothership Slight Return is returning live to the airwaves on AshevilleFM on Tuesday nights from 10pm to midnight! Come check me out in my new time slot! I’m chomping at the bit to get these African-rooted sounds and current events ruminations straight back into your earholes, so please do bring them and let’s restore some order to the galaxy together.

MSR retiring under lockdown, find me on Please Pass the Hacksaw!

May 14, 2020 by P Funk

Hello Listeners,

Try as I might, I have not succeeded in pre-recording my show so that I can continue to produce new content through the lockdown. That’s why my shows have all been reruns during this wacky time we’re all living through. I finally gave up on pre-recording after many abortive attempts, and will not be broadcasting live for the time being. I hope to get back in the studio live again soon for the Mothership Slight Return’s grand return!

But in the meantime, please find my weekly commentaries on the Please Pass the Hacksaw show with Dr. Hyena, where I’ll be passing along the kinds of ruminations you’ve grown accustomed to on the Mothership Slight Return’s news hour. You can hear me and the good doctor passing the hacksaws and cutting our collective chains between 10pm-12am on Tuesday nights, on your community radio station, AshevilleFM.

Be safe, be well, and know that you are loved. I’ll see you soon!

Your DJ P Funk

May 13, 2020 by dr hyena

PPtH’s DJ dr hyena is psyched to announce the addition of a regular guest commentary segment by The Mothership Slight Return’s DJ PFunk, during this time of pandemic-adjusted show scheduling.  For a sample of what’s in store, listen to this week’s (5/12) PPtH archive for PFunk’s call-in Good News report on NC Mail-In Voting! (somewhere around minute 0:47)  Also locally harvested Mental Health Self-Care considerations from Dr. Nick! (0:34).

April 10, 2020 by KP Whaley

As those of us in Buncombe County and the state of North Carolina are forced to stay at home, the stress and anxiety of the coronavirus pandemic have created a perfect storm for domestic violence victims.

April Burgess-Johnson Executive Director of Helpmate and Geoff Sidoli, Executive Director of Mountain Child Advocacy Center spoke with News Team correspondent KP Whaley about the significant increase in requests for services we are seeing in WNC.

Local Organizers Sewing Face Masks For Community

April 10, 2020 by KP Whaley

Masks are now being recommended to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, but finding masks can be a challenge.  A local group of activists saw the need and responded immediately by forming the group Masks Of Love, a DIY sewing group creating homemade masks for the community.  AFM News correspondent KP Whaley talked to one of their organizers about their efforts.
